Kaddish

the unceasing fear of your mother dying
keeps you from sleeping 
was this childhood paranoia a premonition or 
are all Jews built to worry 
and then doomed to be sick? 
A father now covered in the tachrichim, 
the washing 
of hands after the burial 
and what covering the mirrors for shiva means 
you couldn’t help but look
